Queenstown in the south is New Zealand's tourism capital and this is where you will find all of the famous attractions that the adventure seekers from around the world flock here to participate in. It is the hub of the skiing industry on the south island and ski resorts like Coronet Peak, Cardrona, The Remarkables and Treble Cone are all within easy reach. Queenstown has plenty of accommodation and is a great place to stay for a week or a month.

The South Island is alive with major tourist draw cards. Lake Tekapo and Mt Cook are within an easy days drive from Christchurch as is Hanmer Springs and the majestic Arthurs Pass area. In the south, Milford Sound, Wanaka and the Fox and Franz Joseph Glaciers are on everyone's itinerary. On the North Island there are also many must see destinations. To the north of Auckland are the Bay of Islands and the magnificent Kauri forests. To the south is the Coromandel Peninsular, The Bay of Plenty, the geothermal regions around Rotorua and Lake Taupo, Hawkes Bay and its winery's the Tongoriro National Park with its active volcano's like Mt Ruapehu which is also a fabulous ski resort.

Staying in hotels in New Zealand is great, but the best way to see New Zealand is by motor home or campervan and these are available in vast numbers from Auckland and Christchurch. There are excellent facilities throughout the country to cater for this type of holiday. There are also many organized tours with reputable companies that will take you to all of the best places and this will save you all of the planning that is necessary if you choose to drive yourself.
